Sumika Polymer Compound’s parent company Sumitomo Chemical Receives Gold Medal in EcoVadis Sustainability Assessment
July 2020
Sumika Polymer Compound’s parent company Sumitomo Chemical has received a Gold medal* in a sustainability assessment by EcoVadis, an award recognizing companies whose performance is in the top 5% of all companies rated.
Established in 2007, EcoVadis is a performance rating agency focused on environmental issues, social issues, and governance (ESG), working to help companies improve their environment and social practices across the global supply chain. The agency has assessed about 65,000 companies from 160 countries across 200 business sectors in terms of corporate policies, initiatives and achievements in four areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.
Today, a large number of companies are stepping up efforts to achieve sustainability across their supply chain. It is becoming increasingly common to refer to EcoVadis assessment results as one of the selection criteria for choosing suppliers from an ESG perspective. The Sumitomo Chemical Group has also shared its EcoVadis rating more often with its customers in recent years as they increasingly request such disclosure.
Encouraged by the assessment result this time, the Sumitomo Chemical Group will work as one to further strengthen its sustainability efforts and remain a corporate group trusted by society. The company will continue to deliver sustainable growth and meet the expectations of its stakeholders by contributing to the creation of a sustainable society through its business.
